Melba Ogle (b. 1942) was Playboy’s July 1964 Playmate of the Month. Hef’s “girl next door” mandate for the earlier years of Playboy magazine’s subjects was something of a double-edged sword. On the plus side, it elevated the sleazy nudie photography of the day to a level where subjects were more often pretty and even sweet-looking. On the down side, it re-defined the idea of just what constituted the “Girl Next Door.” Here’s a perfect example of Hefner’s desired aesthetic.
