Naked News has been a global phenomenon even in its beginnings, stating they were “getting up to six million unique hits a month.” However, during its earlier days, it was also known as being strict towards the selection of their anchors.
Kathy Pinckert, at one time the vice president of Naked Broadcasting Network Inc., said this about their anchors: “If you look at the women, they’re all very attractive, but they’re not the same kind of women you might find on other sites on the Internet. These are healthy, wholesome, normal looking women. Seeing them makes you feel better about the way you look.” Especially pointing out the latter (“normal looking women”), one can only assume that Naked News had tried to separate itself from porn or even Playboy models.
However, in late 2002 until early 2003, Naked News featured a former Playboy model as an anchor, or, to be more precise, as an entertainment correspondent. Her name was Kelli Graham, originally from Miami. According to Naked News‘ website, Kelli was featured for six appearances in Playboy magazine (a.o. Playboy’s Voluptuous Vixens in October 2000 as well as in October 2001, and you can view her delivering Naked News’ “Fringe Report” from December 2002, above).
Not only was Kelli a gorgeous woman, but she also attended college in Boston to become a medical doctor, before deciding it wasn’t her calling. Hence, Kathy Pinckert’s statement; “We were looking first for neck-up qualities, for people who had a certain intelligence, a spark. They really needed the ability to communicate the story” which was certainly true for Kelli Graham. “In hindsight, we’re totally glad she decided to join Naked News.”
