While many actresses eventually migrate from more rural areas to Southern California, where there is more opportunity in the film industry, indie actress Erin Perez did the opposite. The native Southern Californian moved from the Golden State to Kentucky, where she now calls home and where she prefers the slower-paced lifestyle.
Even though Kentucky isn’t consider a hub of the indie film industry, Erin has built up a credible acting resume, so far, including short films, a TV series, and few features. Her first feature film was 2017’s 6 Feet Below Hell and her most recent feature is the thriller Black Wolf, which was recently completed.

ERIN PEREZ: Nope! I’m actually from Southern California. I know, everyone always asks why I moved out here of all places. Big life change, life is very different out here. Slower pace. I do like that.
CHRIS: How did you get started acting?
ERIN: I started acting in grade school. Being on stage, having the opportunity to envision and take on other personalities has always been intriguing to me. It’s a passion that I always want to keep alive.
CHRIS: As you may already know, Robert Kotabish of RAK Films contacted me about doing an interview with you. How did you first meet Robert and and what was the first film you did with him?
ERIN: I connected with Robert through some mutual friends in the industry while I’ve filmed some projects in Ohio.
CHRIS: I’ve see a screener of The Goocher, thanks to Robert, but for readers, please tell them about your character in that film.
ERIN: The Goocher is a horror film based around six strangers that have been left out in the woods to fend for their lives. A “hunger games” in that sense, with the added flair of some crazed zombie like creatures to add some excitement. I play the lead, Macy, one of the people left to fend for her life. Macy is a strong woman, trying to pick up the pieces of a life that has been torn apart from her. It was a fun role to play. I love getting to do action sequences with stunts.
CHRIS: How about your character in 6 Feet Below Hell?
ERIN: 6 Feet Below Hell is basically about a zombie apocalypse and these group of outcasts and felons are out to help one man save the world. 6FBH was my first film role. I was initially a character with only a couple lines in one scene, but the director ended up giving me a role within the lead ensemble cast. It was a wonderful experience learning and growing as an actor.

ERIN: Ohhh, that’s a hard one. I love film, I get lost in movies. I would really have to say it depends on my mood. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a good lighthearted rom-com or comedy, but I also love horror and thrillers.
CHRIS: Who have been some of your favorite actresses to work with?
ERIN: The last film I was in, Black Wolf, I had the privilege of working with the very talented Laura Radi. We had some great scenes where our characters were out for blood. And when you’re rolling around in the woods trying to kill someone, you create a different kind of friendship (laughs). One that lasts.
CHRIS: Is there anyone in indie films, on either side of the camera, you would really love to work with someday?
ERIN: I’m honestly open to working with anyone. There are so many talented people in this industry and in this area alone, the list is endless.
CHRIS: Have you done many behind-the-scenes roles on films?
ERIN: I’ve done some filming, producing, and directing.
CHRIS: Of the behind-the-scenes roles you’ve done on films, what have you liked doing the most?
ERIN: I loved being behind the camera and directing. Watching characters come alive on camera, giving direction and guidance through a scene. It’s something I’d definitely want to do again in the future.
CHRIS: I hear you’re quite a pastry chef. What are some of your culinary specialties?
ERIN: Yes, I went to Le Cordon Bleu and learned a lot. I currently sell my custom desserts at Ebulliently Sweet on Facebook. My best sellers are my cheesecakes and my cinnamon rolls. But I love creating custom cakes as well.

ERIN: I’m a firm believer in finding alignment within yourself. Bringing a center within your mind, body, and spirit. It is a passion of mine to share that. I’ve been a certified yoga instructor for a year now, as well as a personal trainer and nutritionist. I want people to love themselves, inside and out. And I help guide them through yoga, meditation, ditching the diet mentality, journaling, consistency training, and more.
CHRIS: Do you have any other hidden talents or interests?
ERIN: I’m an avid reader and writer. I enjoy writing short stories and poetry.
CHRIS: As this interview is being conducted during the coronavirus pandemic, and we’ve all had to change our lifestyles because of that, what would you say you are currently missing the most?
ERIN: Not “missing out,” per say, but the way our daily lives have changed can be sad to think about. The way our children are growing up in a world covered in masks, and it’s their normal.
CHRIS: With that, I thank you very much for doing this interview, Erin. In closing, any shout-outs to anyone?
ERIN: Shout-out to my daughter Annilyn. You inspire me to be the best me that I can be everyday.
