On October 11th, Mabig Film Festival held its second annual event, attended by a gathering of talented European filmmakers. Despite COVID-19 safety precautions still being in place, Festival Director Andreea Boyer welcomed filmmakers and guests at Augsburg’s elegant Il Gladiatore, restaurant, hotel, and winebar, which was also the venue for last year’s event. Augsburg, located 50 kilometers west of Munich, is Germany’s third oldest city and is know for its rich history and beautiful architecture.

Christopher Carle, who won for Kein Ausgang under its English title; No Exit, was also on hand to graciously photograph the event.

One of the most noteworthy winners was Austrian filmmaker Andreas Ortner, for his film Richtungswechsel, under its English title; Change of Course, which won for “Best Social/Experimental Film.” Written by Helmut-Michael Kemmer, the film had already earned several favorable reviews from indie film pundits earlier this year and has been the recipient of 17 awards, internationally. The film stars Mr. Ortner and Martina Martinz as the “Moderator of the Mind” and “Moderator of the Heart,” respectively, who “break the fourth wall” and speak directly to the film’s viewers, making poignant commentary on this pandemic and the “change of course” our lives have taken due to its effect. Ms. Martinz, who is still relatively unknown to US audiences, is scheduled for an exclusive interview with Idol Features in the very near future.
