Toronto based multi-media artist Yana Rzayeva was the recipient of this year’s DesignTO award. According to her bio at her official website; her work “explores themes of diaspora, identity, and cultural hybridity through textiles, oil and encaustic painting, and assemblages.” In her artist’s statment, Yana goes on to elaborate that her work “explores the complexities of diaspora, cultural hybridity, and the fragmentation of the diasporic experience through a multi-media practice that bridges ancestral knowledge and contemporary expression.”
