Dark story about two ladies with a “thing” about food

301/302 (1995) Dark psychological thriller about two ladies who live across the hall from each other in an apartment building. The story opens with a police detective questioning Song-hee (Bang Eun-jin) about the disappearance of her neighbor Yun-hee (Hwang Sin-hye) and from there, we’re taken back to the beginning of the two women’s early personal turmoils which led up to their current and quite different lifestyles.

Song-hee is a gluttonous gourmet, while Yun-hee is a reclusive anorexic. Both have deep-seeded reasons as to why they are as such. The former’s obsession with food and cooking drove her husband to divorce her, and the latter’s haunting childhood memories of her abusive father, money hungry mother and the butcher shop they owned (not to mention a tragic accident that caused the death of a neighborhood girl), led her to detest food.

Song-hee often brings food over to Yun-hee which she throws out after Song-hee leaves. Once Song-hee finds out that her meals have gone uneaten and unappreciated, she demands to know why. Yun-hee eventually reveals her dark secret to her neighbor and then suggests Song-hee try a new recipe that will leave them both satisfied.
