The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Friday, November 10, 2023 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM PST

A film screening of Robert Wiene’s 1920 film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
A shadow-cast or shadowplay: A group of people that performs a movie in front of a screen while that movie is playing; they essentially pantomime the movie. Most often seen during showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The live accompaniment performed by local composer and pianist Nathan Shirley. “Silent Film” is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent screening era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist, or even, in large cities, a small live orchestra, would often play music to accompany the films.
Live special effects and puppetry to support the shadow play, designed and performed by Aaron Shirley.
This will be a two-night limited performance featuring the live music of Nathan Shirley, a full ensemble cast of performers, puppetry, unique artistry, production design by Ashton Helton, with the backdrop of the 1920’s German Expressionist Film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
If you enjoy silent films and live music, goths, live Rocky Horror Picture Show experiences, you will love this!
Age recommendation: PG-13
