GINO TERRELL: As a songwriter, where do you draw your inspiration?
LIV HANNA: I draw mostly all of my inspiration from personal experiences. If it’s not my own story, it’s drawn from someone else in my life and written from their perspective about a situation that we both have endured, but I definitely get inspired from my life.
GT: You dabble and experiment with quite a few sounds in your music. How would you best describe your style to folks who haven’t heard your music yet?
LH: As an artist, I don’t like to confine myself to one genre, but if I had to pick a few, I would say Dark/Alt-Pop with a hint of Indie and R’n’B.
GT: After listening to “Sign It on the Line,” what do you want listeners to take away with them?

LH: I definitely don’t recommend following the song’s directives; however, I hope listeners take away the importance of support, asking for help, and knowing you’re not alone.
GT: Earlier this year, you released “Crazy.” A different tone than your upcoming track. Can you take me through your artistic process, in terms of how you wrote that song? How did that come together?
LH: Yes, ‘crazy’ is a bit different from the rest of my songs as it was written about a specific person and situationship. The majority of my music tends to be more self-reflective, writing about personal struggles, or my own mental health issues. This song differs from most as I write about someone else and how their behaviors affected me. I brought it into the studio as a piano ballad and kind of built it up from there.
GT: What do you like to do when you’re not writing music, recording vocals, or performing in music videos?
LH: Living in Miami, I just love being outside, whether it’s running with my puppy or going to the beach to watch the sunset or sunrise. I’m super into Pilates lately and journaling/meditating. I also love a good happy hour and having photoshoots with friends!

GT: When did you discover your artistic talents?
LH: I was maybe seven when I started voice and piano, so it’s safe to say at a very young age. I pursued music and the arts in all aspects throughout my childhood, singing arias with my classical teacher, participating in community theater intensives, and attending casting calls since the age of eight.
GT: Is there anything that drives you to keep making art?
LH: My love and passion for music keep me creating everyday.
GT: Outside of yourself, what songs or music artists are at the top of your playlist?
LH: I listen to everything, so this list is constantly changing, but right now, I’d say Madison Beer, Sabrina Carpenter, and Doja Cat.
GT: Do you have a dream collab? An artist you’d love to work with one day.
LH: Yes! Nessa Barrett, Billie Eilish, Madison Beer, Renee Rapp, or Miley Cyrus. I could never choose, any of these artists would be a dream.
GT: “Sign It on the Line” drops May 17th. Are there any other projects you have in the pipeline this year?
Liv Hanna (Photo: Trinity Nguyen)
LH: Yes!! I have a few songs set to be released in the next few months . . . just need to decide which song should come next!
GT: What can fans expect from you in the coming years? Where do you want to see yourself in the next 3-5 years on your arts journey?
LH: I plan to release an album within the next few years, which I am super excited about! I also hope to be on tour soon, so stay tuned!!
