As it falls in the month of October, this is to be considered a very special Friday the 13th. So, on this particular rare occurrence, we are featuring arguably the best-known personality to portray one of Jason’s victims, who was also one of the most deserving of his wrath.
Even though 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason (the very last one yours truly bought on VHS) was a crossover between the two iconic horror film franchises, it was the 11th and final entry in the original Friday the 13th franchise (final, unless you want to count the 2009 Friday the 13th, which many consider a remake of the 1980 original and not a continuation of the franchise). This was also the 8th and final in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. (once again, the 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street being considered a remake of the original).
As for the the actress playing Kia; true, she was making her big screen acting debut here, however, she was no stranger to fame and success at the time of this film’s release. Kelly Rowland was an original member of the group Destiny’s Child, who formed in 1990, but didn’t have their big breakthrough until 1999 with their second album, The Writing’s on the Wall. She launched what has been a very successful solo career in 2002. Her role as the brash and conceited Kia in Freddy vs. Jason was her first, but certainly not last film role, as her IMDb page will show.
