Spawned by the popular Super Bowl halftime feature, the Lingerie Bowl, the Lingerie Football League had its inaugural season just last year. Having sexy, lingerie-clad players was probably thought to be the only way a womens football organization could survive, but these ladies aren’t merely eye-candy in some powder puff league. In fact, some of the players even have semi-pro experience.
In the LFL, the ladies play all-out, full-contact football for two 17-minute halves on an indoor arena-size field under arena-type rules. However, you’re not here to read about all that, so anyway ….browsing the rosters of the 10 teams revealed a handful of Asian gridiron girls, most notably Korean-born G-N Kang (at right and yes; she uses a hyphen in her name), who plays center for the Philadelphia Passion. G-N’s “day job” is co-host of the “Chio in the Morning” radio show on Philly’s Wired 96.5 FM.
Passion, running back/cornerback Kimberley Wheat. At right is New York Majesty
defensive linewoman (whom I’ve also seen play offense) AJ Nguyen.
offense and defense, is wide receiver/safety Rica Manalastas of the San Diego Seduction.
At right; cornerback Laura Santos of the Denver Dream.
Some highlights of a New York Majesty vs. Philadelphia Passion game.
Glimpses of New York’s AJ Nguyen (#13 in red with the long, black braids)
and Philly’s G-N Kang (#8 in green) can be seen in this one.

I remember GN when she was on ‘Chio in the Morning’ a few years back. She was fired from that show in 2010. I don’t know why since her being in the LFL was great press for the show. She also announced she wouldn’t play a 2nd season in the LFL right after the station let her go.

The girls these days in the now Legends Football League, hit a lot harder than when it was the Lingerie Football League with your bikini model types.
Australia was supposed to take part in the second season of the Legends Football League in 2014, however it was cancelled just weeks before it was set to air.
I was there for the Passion-Majesty game at the Sovereign Center (now the Santander Arena) in Reading back in 2009. It was the day before Halloween. I do remember seeing AJ Nguyen (#13 for NY) and G-N Kang (#8 for Philly). G-N was Philly’s center so other than snapping the ball, she just blocked. Did a fair job of both, I suppose.
AJ Nguyen played on offense and defense. She was on the offensive line and was a poor blocker. Was finally replaced in the second half after blowing a block that led to QB Krystal Gray getting sacked. (Gray wasn’t a good QB, so she needed all the help she could get.) I don’t really remember her making any outstanding plays on defense. Maybe just some tackle assists. I clearly remember her because of those long black braids hanging out from under her helmet. I said to my friends it was a good thing she wasn’t a ball carrier on offense because she’d be sure to get yanked down by those braids. I also remember seeing Kimberly Wheat (#2 for Philly) there, but I don’t think she played much.
AJ Nguyen sucked as a player, but she was great eye candy. Too bad she never carried the ball.
True, AJ’s look was more impressive than her performance on the field. I wouldn’t say GN Kang sucked, but her performance on the field wasn’t anything spectacular. The reason she made the team was probably because of her “celeb” status in Philly and of course, the way she looked sure didn’t hurt.
3 of the 4 teams these girls played for were terrible. The NY Majesty, the San Diego Seduction, and the Denver Dream. All 3 were winless in the 2009 season.
